Scripture Memory

Aldous Huxley, an unbeliever, made the following observation.

“Each man’s memory is his private literature.” Isaac Watts, the hymn writer, stated, “Without memory the soul of man would be a poor, destitute, naked being, with an everlasting blank spread over it, except the fleeting ideas of the present moment.”

It is been said, “Many people store the Bible on the shelf instead of in their heart.” Matthew 13:19 “When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.”

Many years ago, the village priest in Kalonovaka, Russia, took a special liking to a pug nose lad who recited the Scriptures with proper piety. By offering various inducements, the priests managed to teach the boy the 4 Gospels, which he recited nonstop in church one day. 60 years later he still like recite scriptures, but in a context that would have horrified the old priest. The prize pupil who memorized so much of the Bible was Nikita Khrushchev, former premier of the Soviet Union. What makes the difference between superficial and beneficial Scripture memorization? First, you must have a right relationship and fellowship with God through Christ. Second, you must memorize with prayerful meditation. Here are some 5 step methods:
